Dr. Yangsiyu Lu is an assistant professor at the Carbon Neutrality and Climate Change Thrust and the Innovation, Policy, and Entrepreneurship Thrust. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from the University of Oxford, a M.E. in Energy and Environment from IMT Mines Albi (France), and a M.E. and a B.E. in Environmental Science and Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before joining HKUST(GZ), she worked as a research fellow at the Paris School of Economics and Boston University.

Dr. Lu’s research focuses on energy infrastructure and climate policy. She has extensive research experience in energy transition, clean technology policies, and Chinese overseas energy investments associated with the Belt and Road Initiative. Her work has been published in leading SCI journals such as Nature Communications, iScience and Applied Energy, as well as prominent SSCI journals like World Development and Environmental and Resource Economics. She is a member of the junior editorial board for the journal Carbon Footprints and has served as a reviewer for top-notch journals, including Nature Energy, Nature Climate Change, Joule, International Journal of Industrial Organization, and World Development.

With working experience across multiple countries in the environmental and energy sectors—including international organizations, private enterprises, and non-profit organizations—Dr. Lu’s research findings have garnered attention from media outlets such as Forbes, the BBC, The Independent, and The Daily Mail. She also provides policy consulting services for public sectors, infrastructure projects, and investment institutions.
